
Library Resource Centres at Nirma University complement the classroom teaching. Print, online and digital resources, which are selectively chosen by the faculty, are served before the library users by the library staff.
Nirma University Library System comprises five units, i.e., Technology Library, Management – Commerce Library, Pharmacy – Science Library, Law Library and Architecture – Design Library. It functions at two broad levels:
Administrative Level
The library of each institute has a Library Committee where recommendations related to procurement and library activities are made. It is chaired by the Director of the institute. At the University level, there is a Library Council chaired by the Director General. All Policy level decisions are taken by this body.
Resource Acquisition and Access Level
Nirma University Library System comprises decentralised resources acquisition and display in different libraries located on the campus. Open Source Software Koha version 21.05 is used in the Nirma Libraries. It has a web-opac which helps the users plan their visit to the library.
The Nirma University Library System uses Open Source software DSpace version 6.2 to build and update institutional repository which houses the faculty publications, PhD theses, institute programme videos, convocation speeches, etc. All electronic resources are IP authenticated. Access to resources is provided through campus LAN, Wi-Fi and remote access through RemoteXs software.
The Library offers membership to current students, faculty, staff, alumni and corporate members. It has adopted an open access system to facilitate the users to have an easy access to the resources. Further, to cater to the various information needs of the users, the Library has subscribed to several institutional memberships, like INFLIBNET Centre, the American Information Resource Center ? Mumbai, the British Council Library ? Ahmedabad, Institute of Engineers ? Kolkata, Indian Society for Earthquake Technology (ISET), Developing Library Network (DELNET), Indian Geotechnical Society, the Computer Society of India, Vikram Sarabhai Library IIM-A, CEPT University library, International Association of Law Schools, the India Law Institute, the Centre for Computer Assisted Legal Instruction (CALI), the India Society of International Law, the Commonwealth Legal Education Association, International Law Student Association, etc.
